Rural Verified

What the badge means, what we check, and what it doesn't cover.

What we check

  1. License, where required. Checked against the state or county lookup for the trade and area.
  2. Current insurance certificate. A certificate of insurance (COI) showing active general liability coverage. Re-checked every year.
  3. Business registration. Registered with the state (or a local business license where that applies).
  4. Equipment list. What they run, like an excavator, mulcher, drill rig, or trencher, so you know they can do your job.

What it is not

  • Not a criminal background check. We don't run them.
  • Not a guarantee of work, price, or results, and no money-back guarantee.
  • Not an endorsement. Check reviews, get a written estimate, and confirm permits.

Trade credentials (separate from the badge)

Pros can add credentials. We show one only after we check it, with the date. You can check them yourself too:

Some tags are self-reported and not checked: takes urgent jobs, steep or wet ground, EQIP / cost-share experienced, mobilization fee.

Preview: no business has been verified yet. The badge on example listings only shows where it will appear.

Rural Verified badge

The Rural Verified badge. Shown only on profiles that passed all four checks, with the date checked.

Questions

What does Rural Verified check?

Four things: a trade license where your state or county requires one, a current certificate of insurance, a business registration, and a list of the equipment you run. We re-check insurance every year.

Do you run criminal background checks?

No. Rural Verified does not include criminal background checks. It covers license, insurance, registration, and equipment list only.

Is Rural Verified a guarantee?

No. It means we saw those documents on the date shown. It is not a guarantee of work quality, and we don't offer a money-back guarantee. Always get a written estimate and check permits yourself.

What does it cost?

Nothing extra. Any member, Free, Pro, or Premium, can earn the badge by passing the checks. Paying for a plan never makes a business verified, and the badge shows the date it was checked.

How do I check a license myself?

Your state contractor board or licensing agency usually has a free online lookup. Some rural trades, like well drilling and septic installing, are licensed separately by the state or county health department.
