Insurance and disaster help

What to do after storm damage, in order.

For landowners 2 min read

  1. Stay safe. If someone is hurt or a line is down, call 911 or your power company first.
  2. Document damage. Use the document-damage checklist to take photos before anything is moved.
  3. Know coverage. Read what policies usually cover on rural land, then ask your agent.
  4. Disaster programs. Check FEMA and USDA programs if a disaster has been declared.
  5. Avoid storm chasers. Watch for the scam signs on the storm mode page.
